This exceptional antique ring is a wonderful example of Late Victorian jewelry from the late 19th century, combining rich natural sapphire color with the distinctive craftsmanship and romantic detailing of the period.

The ring features five graduated oval-cut natural sapphires totaling 2.43 carats. Each sapphire displays a deep, velvety blue hue, creating a dramatic and elegant progression across the top of the ring. The stones have been left untreated, allowing their natural color and character to take center stage. Their slightly individual faceting adds to the charm of the piece and reflects the character of antique gemstone cutting.

The sapphires are mounted in rich 14K yellow gold, secured by substantial crown-like claw prongs. Beneath the stones is an intricate openwork gallery, showcasing the hand-finished construction characteristic of fine Victorian jewelry.

The shoulders and gallery incorporate decorative carved and chased detailing inspired by floral and foliate forms, an especially beloved motif during the Victorian period. The organic decoration provides a beautiful contrast to the deep blue sapphires and gives the ring an extraordinary amount of visual interest from both the top and side profiles.

The five-stone half-hoop design is both elegant and practical, allowing the ring to sit relatively low against the finger while creating a substantial band of color. This classic silhouette has remained popular for generations and works beautifully as a statement ring, anniversary ring, or addition to an antique jewelry collection.

The ring is currently a size 7 and features a vintage 9K gold spring-bar sizing insert, allowing the ring to accommodate slightly smaller fingers without interrupting the original carved decoration of the shank. This non-invasive approach helps preserve the integrity of the antique mounting.

Accompanied by GIA certification confirming the sapphires are natural and not heat treated, this ring offers the particularly desirable combination of genuine antique craftsmanship and untreated natural gemstones.

Collector's Note

The combination of five natural, unheated sapphires totaling 2.43 carats and an authentic late-19th-century 14K yellow gold mounting makes this a particularly appealing piece for an antique gemstone collector. The GIA documentation is an important part of the presentation, as the absence of heat treatment is a significant distinction for natural sapphires and should be prominently highlighted in the listing.
